Important News About $7500 Tax Credit For Home Buyers

December 1, 2008

Those of you who read my blog about Laurel Maryland real estate, should recall my earlier post about the $7500 tax credit for first time home buyers.  This credit is actually available for all first time home buyers of Maryland real estate.

Just wanted to make you aware of a couple items regarding the tax credit.  If you earn this tax credit and then sell your home at a loss or your gain is less than the actual tax credit, you only have to pay the difference.  In other words, you buy your Maryland home for $300K and then sell it three years later $303K.  You would only have to pay back $3K of the credit.  If you sold your Maryland home at a loss, you would not have to pay any of the credit.

I also wanted to point out that this first-time homebuyer credit expires in June of 2009.   This is an incredible bargain for buyers of Maryland real estate.
