West Laurel Holiday Party
The West Laurel Recreation Council once again is hosting a neighborhood holiday party. The party is 12/4 from 7-9pm. Come join your friends and neighbors for crafts, seasonal music, and some refreshments. Santa is planning to make an appearance if the workload at the North Pole is under control (the rain deer need the exercise).
Bring your favorite holiday finger food to share.
We will again be collecting unwrapped toys for children of all ages to donate to LARS see http://www.laureladvocacy.org/
As you know, the Rec Council is a volunteer organization. Events only happen because members of the community step forward and volunteer. We are looking for help running various craft tables, and someone to wear the Frosty the Snowman suit.

Laurel School Of Music Still Going StrongLast night I took my daughter to the Laurel School of Music on Main St in Laurel Maryland. Every Monday evening she has a voice lesson and piano lesson at the school. However, this Monday night was different. My daughter and I will be singing a duet this Sunday at First United Methodist Church on Main St in Laurel. So both my daughter and I were there for a voice lesson. We met with her piano teacher, Mac Statham, to rehearse for Sunday. What amazed me about the Laurel School of Music is how busy it was. The school has expanded over the last couple of years. More rooms have been added. The school now has added an upstairs. Most of all, on a weekend most people are out of town, the Laurel School of Music was busy. It looks like Laurel Maryland is a great place for people who love music. Laurel School of Music is located at the corner of 7th St. and Main St. in Laurel Maryland. Home Sales Laurel Maryland
The above chart compares home sales in Laurel Md 20707 of this past September 2009 with last September 2008. The results are quite surprising. It appears Laurel real estate may be increasing in value. The average sold price increased over 17% to $271,438. That is a difference of 40 thousand dollars over last year. The median sold price in Laurel Md 20707 experienced a jump as well. In September of 2008 the median sold price was $220,500. However, this past September 2009, the median sold price increased to $247,000! Now one might think these value increases might have a chilling effect on the amount of homes sold in Laurel Md 20707. Surprisingly, the amount of homes almost doubled from 22 in September 2008 to 38 in September 2009. Not only did more Laurel real estate sell, but more homes sold faster. The average days on market dropped from 115 days to just 72 days. Though the numbers are surprising, it remains to be seen if this is the start of a trend in Laurel real estate. Halloween Party For MLK Seventh GradersThis past Friday, October 30th there was a Halloween party for all seventh graders of Martin Luther King Middle School in Beltsville Md. And it was at my house! I wasn’t too worried when my daughter, who is in seventh grade at MLK in Beltsville Md, said she wanted to have a party the weekend of Halloween. Didn’t pay much attention….I even thought she would forget about it. But there she was shortly after that planning her party. Invitations were printed up and distributed to the entire seventh grade at Martin Luther King Middle School. Ok, so she was gonna have a party with some of her school friends. Alright, so maybe ten to fifteen kids show up at my house, have a nice time and go home at a decent hour. However, when I ask my daughter how many of her classmates she expects to show up at our home on Bounds Ave. in Laurel Maryland, she says without thinking, “Sixty”. Sixty seventh graders in my house in Laurel?!!! Then my mind starts to race. It dawns on me that for seventh graders, my daughters party is the only thing to do on Friday. They will come to my house…lots of them. Now I am suddenly looking for parents to help. I need bodies to help supervise. I need adults to help reign in the crazy behavior of adolescent boys and girls. Fortunately, My wife and I were able to secure about seven chaperons for the party. My daughter and my wife were able to get food and decorations for the party. The big night came and about 46 seventh graders were deliverd to my door on Bounds Ave in Laurel. The party was set to end at 11:30 p.m. I cooked some additional foods and supervised my back yard. There were several play stations in the house. About half the kids were outside the entire night. Surprisingly, everything went great!! The kids were wonderful. They were full of energy. They played football. They played basketball. They danced. They roasted marshmallows. It was just a night of good clean fun. The last kids left around 12:30 a.m. The party was a big success for my daughter and my wife. I was very happy that everyone had a good time and no one got hurt. This party was an indication that if you purchase Laurel real estate, you are going to have some great neighbors.
