Financing In Maryland Real Estate

April 26, 2008

Ok, so whats’ happening in the mortgage industry in Maryland. Well, you still have the great first time home buyer programs.  The state offers the CDA program.  This program still allows buyers to have a back end ratio of up to 50%.  FHA loans are still very popular and getting more popular.  FHA allows the buyer to have a back end ratio of 43%.  In addition, FHA is not credit score dependent.  However, with an FHA loan you need at least three percent of your own money.  But, there is away around that as well.  Several non-profit organizations will give you that three percent money.  If done right, using an FHA loan you can get into a home for $1000 or less.  Feel free to ask me for details.   Montgomery County Maryland still has its great HOC program.  The HOC program has a step loan that starts at 3.9% the first year, 4.9% the second year and then stops at 5.9% for the rest of the loan.  All these programs make buying Maryland real estate that much more affordable.

Laurel Md To Get New Ball Field

April 23, 2008

The Alice B. McCullough Field in the city of Laurel Md will be expanding.  The city has approved funds to expand the field located on Eighth Street in Laurel.   Two new fields will be developed.  One new field will be for soccer and the other for football.   Currently next to McCullough is an area that use to belong to a business that burned down a long time ago.  Since then, the city of Laurel Md and Prince Georges County have traded the site back and forth.  When Prince Georges County failed to build homes on the site,  Laurel bought the site back.  Plans to build the field have been in the works since 1998.  The funding for the expansion just came through.

Laurel Md Area Community Sings For Martin Luther King

April 22, 2008

Several churches and synagogues (I hope I spelled that right) in the Laurel Md area, have come together over the past couple of months to sing a tribute to Martin Luther King.    A few months back, the group sang at the Resurrection Church in Laurel Md on Laurel-Bowie Rd.   Last night the group performed at Coppin State College in Baltimore Md.  Both performances were well received.   This wonderful piece of music was written by Laurel Md’s own Dr. Mack  Statham.  Dr.  Statham is the organist at First United Methodist Church in Laurel Md.  He and his son played the piano in last nights performance.

Geek Squad In a Laurel Md Elementary School

April 16, 2008

Gorman Crossing Elementary School in Laurel Md has its own “Geek Squad”.  The Geek Squad consist of several elementary students who are learning about technology.  Their teacher Mark Welsh got the idea off of, where else, the internet.   These students are learning how to problem solve for both teachers and students who find themselves in technological turmoil.  This sounds like a good idea for every school in the country.

Prince Georges County To Resume Yard Waste Pick Up

April 15, 2008

A very important message for Laurel Md residents.  Prince Georges County will begin picking up your yard waste on Wednesdays.  The county does this every year about this time.  This will be done once a week into the begining of the Fall.  So put your yard waste out by the curb on Wednesday mornings.   You can use large paper leaf bags.  Any twigs or branches you have can not be more than 4 feet in length.  All branches should be tied together by twine.
